Hatch is a kinetic light sculpture created for the amsterdam light festival o 2013-2014.Hatch was inspired by the festival's theme, "building with light". With the use of mirrors an illusion of endless space is created. While the lower part is burried in the ground, the upper part of the sculpture, emerses from the ground and can be seen from afar.
Hatch uses the principal of putting an object between two mirrors to create an endless effect. The structure is based on LED tubes that are half above the ground and half buried between the two mirrors. The LED “ladder” is attached to a motor at the end and the entire sculpture is controlled by Arduino. The slow twist movement created with the motor makes the sculpture life like. A project in collaboration with new media artist, Liat Segal.
