"More than a pill"

“More than a pill”
Health as a social movement is “more than a pill”, meaning it is not about a medical prescription, explains Swift, which are mainly used to stabilise a certain condition or keep a person going (Health as a Social Movement: Launch Event, 2016). It about completely changing one’s lifestyle in order to maintain an on-going healthy lifestyle. In other words, investing in your health. Doing something that your future health will thank you.

Depends on the individuals perception and need

Health as a social movement depends on how you see it, what it means to you and how you need it ( Health as a Social Movement: Launch Event, 2016). For some it is about changing your lifestyle by taking up an activity to prevent a certain illness, for others is about taking it slow and taking a break from your busy schedule to do the things you love or miss doing in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, for some it is about changing your diet not only to lose weight, but to eat more healthy, leaving out or reducing meat -, pizza-, junk food - intake, and eating vegetables and fruits. Especially food that you have been missing out on and it has or is about to lead to a particular illness.
Mark Swift, believes that “we get better results when we do things with people as opposed to, to them” (Health as a Social Movement: Launch Event, 2016).
According to Anu Singh (2016) it is about embracing activities which already exist and are working in keeping people well, healthy, and motivate, for instance health clubs; and integrate these within our communities, and improve them where they are not working (RSA Insights: Health as a Social Movement, 2016).

PURPOSE:

To encourage social activities in a world dominated by social media

Modern healthcare often focuses on treating acute illnesses and injuries. However, the National Health Service (NHS) England - an organisation in England that sets priorities and direction of the of the National Health Service, and encourage and inform the national debate to improve health and care - believes in “prevention is better than cure”.
NHS values the lives of everyone, improving lives, commitment to quality of care, compassion, and respect and dignity (National Health Service [no date]). NHS England aims to provide everyone with greater control over their health and their wellbeing, including support to live longer, healthier lives by providing high quality health and care services that are compassionate, inclusive and constantly-improving (National Health Service [no date]).
The RSA Animate, RSA Shorts and RSA Insights aim to bring big ideas to new audiences. As such, the RSA Insights draws from the RSA Action and Research Centre’s ‘Health and as a Social Movement’ programme to provide videos and animations that explore new ideas and projects.
The RSA in collaboration with the NHS would like to create an inspiring animation that will elaborate on and involve the words of the speaker (provided sound file). The animation will promote and encourage the sustainable health care through the prevention of diseases, by focusing on our physical, mental and social wellbeing, in a world dominated by social media.
