How To Work With A Graphic Designer

Working as the only graphic designer in a big organization is both rewarding and challenging. In the seven years I worked as the solo in-house designer at National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), I did a lot of experimenting and learned many strategies about relating to others who aren't familiar with the creative design process and terminology. Over time, I've spoken at several conferences and workshops to other in-house creatives about the many challenges, and ideas for overcoming them.

My desire to share processes with others all began when I had my first speaking opportunity at an NPCA all-staff retreat in 2012. I developed a presentation called "Inside Annie's Brain" to give my fellow staffers a look at what it's like to be a designer and how to best collaborate on design projects. In seeing the value of this presentation by other in-house designers I've shared it with, I'm posting most of the slides here. If you're the only designer, or on a small team in-house, hopefully this will give you some starting ideas in crafting your own presentations!
