Wedding invitation design

This is a wedding invitation card that I designed for a dear friend in Oct 2018. The illustration concept was provided by her where, the idea was to showcase deer in a forest of cherry blossom trees, along with parrots, marigolds and jasmine that were deeply symbolic to her. She also provided a poem by Dinah Craik to be included on the card.

I started out by using traditional watercolors and gouache for the illustration. Each of the elements were painted separately and assembled on Adobe Photoshop as a single image. The lettering for the names on the cover were drawn using Procreate on the iPad and then vectored using Adobe Illustrator. The lettering was then added back into the Photoshop file and given a gold foil embossed look.
The calligraphy was made by me in Procreate and traced in Illustrator to create a vector version of the same. A gold effect was finally applied to give a polished look.
Here are the deer painted separately and added to the background so I could move them around to work with a composition that I was satisfied with. On the right is a 'Save the Date' card using part of the same background.
