BAUHAUS 100TH - JOHANNES ITTEN
A CELEBRATION OF THE BAUHAUS ARTIST
This year (2019) is the 100th Anniversary of the Bauhaus. For this occasion, I wanted to celebrate one of the most iconic characters of this school. My desire was to reflect the teachings of designer Johannes Itten into a typeface.
Itten was an artist and designer who believed in being wholesome towards art and design, he once said: "He who wants to become a master of color must see, feel, and experience each individual color in its many endless combinations with all other colors. Colors must have a mystical capacity for spiritual expression, without being tied to objects.". This is an excellent quote to demonstrate his approach to design.
He also created and taught the preliminary course that was the foundation of all students at the Bauhaus. In this course, Itten taught the alumni meditation and breathing exercises. With this, Itten instructed students to involve all their spirit into their pieces of art and design.

EXHIBITION
I had the chance to exhibit my project at Nottingham Lakeside Arts, in the Djanogly Gallery. Together with over 100 students from NTU Graphic Design, we displayed various Bauhaus inspired typefaces. Our section in the exhibition was called "The Next 100" in celebration of the 100 years to follow of Bauhaus inspired work.
Special thanks to all the teachers that helped make the exhibition happen!
THANKS FOR WATCHING!
